Pascal on man's plight:

If man is not made for God,

why is he only happy in God?

If man is made for God,

why is he so opposed to God?

- Blaise Pascal, Pensées, as read in R.C. Sproul's The Holiness of God

Hi Matt,

Long time...I hope residency is going well for you.

So, what do you think about this?
Are we made for God or not?
I remember discussing with you before whether God would still be God even if nothing had been created. Do you think we have any purpose other than to worship our Creator?

I hope this finds you having a good day.

Hey S.P.,

Great to have you comment here again! Residency truly starts for me on Tuesday and I am pretty stressed about it but knowing I have a Savior who is unchanging even as everything in my life changes has given me much comfort.

As to your questions, I think it's pretty clear in Scripture that we are made for God. It's also clear that our first parents, Adam and Eve rebelled and we have inherited their sin-nature and spiritual death. Even for the Christian, who is a new creation in Christ, there are still the world, the flesh and the devil to contend with so I think even the Christian can find himself opposed to God at times. When it comes to our purpose I would say it is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.

Hope you're doing well too Scarlet!

Matt

Good quote bro. So much truth and mystery contained in so few words.
