Which Cross do you believe in?

The old cross slew men; the new cross entertains them. The old cross condemned; the new cross amuses. The old cross destroyed confidence in the flesh; the new cross encourages it.

I have to admit that I'm pretty stoked that you quoted Tozer. He's my favorite non-church father.

I'm just confused by this quote. What is this "new cross" it speaks of? The old one sounds like the Roman cross, maybe?

Edly, for some reason I didn't see your comment/question until today. I would say the "old cross" is simply the cross, that is, the cross in reality. The "new cross" is what watered-down seeker-sensitive "christianity" has made it into - an excuse for sin or as it seems Tozer would say a form of entertainment - kind of brings to mind much of evangelical megachurch "worship" does it not? So maybe I don't totally understand what Tozer meant either, I still like it though. Got a problem with that??? =)

So when did Tozer write? What sort of man was he? I must confess, I know next to nothing about him.

Ed, do you not have wikipedia?
